  • review rating 5  The gear room is worth supporting because of the commitment that the employees and owners show to their local climbing community. These guys and gals are the real deal; they clearly care about the Wasatch, and they contribute in a number of meaningful ways. Their consignment is honestly amazing; tons of touring skis, a boatload of climbing gear, and a bunch of other things. Prices are all over the place (being that it's a consignment store, prices are set by the sellers), but generally very fair. Some killer deals can be found here.

  • review rating 5  I just bought a great pair of skis and bindings. from the beginning, everyone I talked to had the right perspective about the sport and also friendly customer service. this was on the phone. they had the Atomic skis I wanted, a great binding, and the best price I could find anywhere in the area. when I arrived, I found a shop of well informed, friendly athletes that do all backcountry sports, and were experts. they mounted my bindings immediately and the whole experience could not have been better, just for the skis. I also deal with outdoor shops and ski shops at home. I would give a high rating for the ski experience alone. however, the find was in that this is the best one stop place I found anywhere for equipment they have. the next time I am in Salt Lake, Kevin and the folks will be my one stop shop for outdoor mountaineering backcountry expertise and gear.

  • review rating 5  Full disclosure I know the owners of The Gear Room personally but I wanted to write a review because this store and the staff are great! Chris and Kevin as well as the people they have hired know their stuff! Their primary concern is getting their customers into the gear that is going to get them the most of their time spent outside. Sales seems to always come secondary. If they don't have the right piece of gear they will tell you rather than try and make something work. You can go in as an expert or novice and know you will get great service. I have sold several things through the store and had no issues. I also have bought/upgraded some equipment that has all been in great shape for amazing deals. It is KSL prices but with the selection of a ski/climbing shop. If you haven't checked it out you have to!

  • review rating 5  I've been coming here since the shop opened. The owners and employees that I have met are all very enthusiastic and are great stewards of outdoor recreation in the Wasatch range. They support preservation of fragile areas (such as Lone Peak) and support local non-profits related to the Wasatch. The employees are incredibly knowledgeable about outdoor gear as well as the Wasatch range. They give great advice about local ski tours, climbing routes, and I'm sure many other things as well. Highly recommended!

  • review rating 5  The Gear Room is a great place to find used clothes and gear. My husband picked up his climbing shoes that he dropped off a month or so ago to get resoled and I found a sweet used Cotopaxi coat originally over $100 and I got it at The Gear Room for $40! We’ve had friends find incredible deals on appear here too. They also have used skis, backpacks, new and used cams, and lots of climbing shoes. They’ve got a lot into a little space. I have a feeling we might start frequenting this place.
